My work in the exhibition ‘Arc, Angle, Plane, Form’ at Gallery 57 in Arundel, West Sussex, UK: March 2nd - May 11th 2019
I was delighted to be invited to take part in the Spring group exhibition currently showing at Gallery 57 in Arundel, West Sussex, UK. The owner of Gallery 57, Ann Symes, who is herself a practicing artist found me via my Instagram feed. Ann creates beautiful geometric-based artwork, some of which is also in this exhibition.
Sadly it was too far for me to travel to this exhibition, so I missed the opening and have to settle instead for seeing the exhibition though photographs online. I would have loved to meet the other artists, many of whom I already follow on Instagram.
I have a series of seven small shaped paintings (or wall sculptures) in this exhibition. I call them my Iceberg series. The original inspiration for these paintings came from a photograph I took on a cold winters day while walking on the hills above my house in Wellington. When it came to naming these paintings I stumbled upon some fascinating information about icebergs and their naming conventions, and this tied in beautifully with my paintings.
Icebergs are named following a convention which identifies the area where they first broke away from (a number) followed by a letter if they have subsequently split off from the original iceberg. The seven paintings in this series are named after the seven largest icebergs that have formed to date, all of which have come from the Antarctic. I have added each of these to my Three-dimensional Work page, so you can read the ‘story’ that goes with each iceberg.
More information on the exhibition can be found on the Gallery 57 website www.gallery57.co.uk. Check it out - Ann has a lovely selection of work available by many different artists, and sells online as well as directly through the gallery.
Other artists in the Arc, angle, plane, form exhibition: Dail Behennah, Patrick O’Donnell, Sarah Stafford, Kate Henderson, Ann and Stuart Mercer, Richard Perry, Vanessa Stopworth and Ann Symes - as well as me!
